Why do you want to be a champion for the construction industry?

If someone asked me what industry was exciting to be in, the first thing to pop into my head would be ‘Construction!’ And it’s true – the market has really picked up since the recession and work is going on everywhere. There are more roles available than you think, with positions in design, planning, marketing and sales, through to surveying, estimating, HR, buying, customer services and so many more. The list is endless when it comes to roles in the construction industry.

What advice could you give someone who’s thinking about taking the leap into construction?

It’s never too late to choose you career path, or even change it and follow a new one. Some people know exactly what they want to do when they’re really young, and that’s fine, but I didn’t know my direction until I was 19. In terms of studying at school, I would recommend that you do subjects that you’re interested in and enjoy doing, rather than do the subject because you think you have to.

If I had to leave that person with just one piece of advice, I think it would be this; people will always need somewhere to live, a place to work, leisure centres and shops to visit. The construction industry is always looking at new ideas, new ways to build and how we can be innovative within our roles. I really have found the perfect career for me, and I’m sure it could be the perfect career for someone else too.

It's never too late to choose your career path, I found that construction is the perfect career for me and I'm sure it will be for you too!
