What makes you so passionate about your career in construction?

I think it stems from the variety of work I get to do in my role. A lot of people say that in their work ‘no two days are the same’, but for me it really is true. In any one week I could be meeting with a whole host of different people, from land owners and agents to local councils and consultants. This keeps you on your toes and you have to adapt your approach accordingly. But it’s all worth it when you see someone moving into a new home built on a development that you’ve helped obtain planning permission for.

What would to someone thinking about a career in construction?

A career in construction can be extremely rewarding, both financially and socially. To succeed in this sector, however, you need a strong work ethic and be willing to constantly assess and evaluate your workload (I find that I have to do a lot of that my role). I consider construction to be the leading industry in the UK economy, and employment opportunities can only rise with future growth in the sector, particularly given the UK’s current mass housing shortage.

If there was one piece of lasting advice you could give to someone who wants to be a Construction Ambassador, what would it be?

If you are passionate about construction and can demonstrate this, then the possibilities are endless.
