What do you love about your career in construction?
I’m really passionate about building, and being able to continually learn about new and exciting construction methods. I learn something new on a daily basis. It’s also a great industry to work in as I get to interact with a wide variety of people.
What advice do you give to young people thinking about starting a career in this industry?
A career in construction is not for the faint-hearted, but if you enjoy the building process and can show that you’re hard-working, then there is no better place to be.
My most important advice would be to make sure that you are genuinely interested in the area of study that you’re in, especially if you’re studying part-time alongside working full-time in a job. Just from my own experience, I’ve often had to spend weekends completing assignments for university. But I did find that my job helped me understand the objectives of the assignments, as I had experience and contacts from my day to day job to help me.
