I work for P34B (which stands for Projects, Programmes and Portfolios 4 Businesses) and they provide support to clients who wish to execute projects, initiatives and/or change in order to realise their own business vision.
We provide support during planning, execution and transition period with a focus on sustainable legacy.
It’s always nice driving past projects I’ve worked on in the past, each with their own stories and memories.
My job involves understanding businesses and people, listening to and aligning with their needs, and then converting the vision into a plan and executing it. With a background that spans the entire property/project development lifecycle from conception to operation, I am able to maintain a good perspective of the project life and its benefits. I use my contacts, experience and enthusiasm to provide clients with the options, drive and outcome that they need.
With enthusiasm and commitment, you have the potential to exceed your own expectations, steer your career, and provide yourself with professional and life experiences.
Before I left school, I knew that I wanted to do something practical, that would leave a legacy that you could physically see. I enjoyed Science, Maths and Engineering subjects, and when contextualised within industry applications, it made a lot of sense for me. So when I left school in 1998, I sent a CV and a covering letter to a building services company, who gave me a four year apprenticeship. This provided me with experience in estimating, design, electrical engineering, site management and project management whilst securing an ONC, HNC and my electrical engineering qualifications on a part time basis. In 2003, I started studying part time for a BSc (Hons) in Project Management and graduated in 2006. In 2007, I was head hunted for a client side technical bid/project development role. In 2010 I was promoted to Operations manager due to my performance and capability for the role. After that I was involved with closing contracts, bidding for new work and supporting clients. I decided to go freelance in 2013, as I was becoming more recognised in the industry and more development opportunities were being offered. I started by supporting a major UK car manufacturer in project delivery, then project development/delivery and then in the development of a project management framework to coincide with other business improvement initiatives in the company. In 2016, I have repositioned my business, with respect for the capability and endorsements I’ve received. I wanted to provide a similar service to other clients, and so this service became P34B, which I registered on my birthday!
I love learning and developing my capability. The harder I work, the more I achieve and then the more satisfied I feel. With a background in construction and expertise in project management I see there being limitless opportunities for me, where I can control the pace of my career development to be balanced with my family and personal commitments. I really enjoy having the opportunity to challenge and be challenged, brainstorm with people, come up with new ideas and get the ball rolling. It’s nice when people comment positively on my performance, but I get most satisfaction when I know I’ve made a difference.
That’s a very hard question! My career and performance have created opportunities for me, some of which I didn’t even know existed. My ambition is to be recognised as an industry figure that has enabled people, projects and businesses to realise their ambitions, opportunities and potential.
I genuinely believe that there are few industries and careers which offer the ability to diversify yet progressively develop strength and capability. I’m excited by the limitless opportunity to build upon my experience in the project and programme management arena, and to make a difference and be inspired to do more. It’s always nice driving past projects I’ve worked on in the past, each with their own stories and memories.
Construction is not just about buildings, machines and mud. There is a professional side to the industry, which presents the chance to work across a whole range of roles, project types, sectors and even countries! With enthusiasm and commitment, you have the potential to exceed your own expectations, steer your career, and provide yourself with professional and life experiences.
