How to become a Partitioning systems operative

GCSE or equivalent such as the Welsh Baccalaureate in Maths and English are important because you need to use precise measurements and follow instructions carefully.

You could then do an NVQ Level 2 in Interior Systems (Construction) – Partitioning and move on to a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision to gain the right skills for this career.

What does a Partitioning systems operatives do?

  • Assessing the building’s environmental conditions to ensure they’re suitable
  • Examining materials to check everything has arrived and nothing is damaged and transporting them carefully to the site
  • Measuring out work areas
  • Sticking to the rules on soundproofing or fire protection
  • Leaving the place clean and tidy when the job is done
  • Working with the architect, interior designer or facilities manager on the interior fit-out of a building to make sure the partition works exactly how they want
  • Working with materials that are suited to the kind of partitioning systems being installed or a particular building’s purpose 
  • Following manufacturer’s instructions carefully, especially when fitting custom-made partitions
