Privacy policy & cookies

The Construction Industry Training Board otherwise known as CITB is a charity registered in England and Wales (Charity Number 264289) and in Scotland (Charity Number SC044875) with its principal place of business at Bircham Newton, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, PE31 6RH (“CITB”).

Use of this website by you constitutes acceptance by you of this privacy notice. If you are not willing to accept this Privacy Policy please leave this website immediately. This privacy policy governs www.goconstruct.org (hereafter referred to as ‘Sites’). This policy does not cover links within these Sites to websites that are not maintained by the CITB as the facilitator of the Go Construct programme.

Information we collect 

We may collect and process the following data about you:

  • Information you give us. You may give us information on the Sites, by phone, e-mail, when you register or use our site. Data may include, but is not limited to, name, address, e-mail address, phone number, personal details and photographs.
  • Information we receive from other sources. We may receive information about you if you use any of the other websites we operate or the other services we provide. In this case, we will have informed you when we collected that data that it may be shared internally and combined with data collected on this site.
  • Information we collect about you. We use cookies to distinguish you as a user and to enhance your visit to our Sites. Cookies help you sign in to our services without repetition and limit fraud, forming small text files on your hard drive or device, containing information such as personal data that can be read by a web server in the domain issuing the cookie. They record dates and times of visits, registration data, session ID numbers, navigational history and preferences. We may automatically collect certain information passively as a result of your use of the Sites. This information may include, but is not limited to, your IP address, operating system, browser type, access times and your geographical location.

We may use the information we hold about you in the following ways:

To carry out our obligations arising from any contracts we enter and to provide you with information, products and services you request from us; to notify you about changes to our service; to ensure that content from our Sites are presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer.
  • Information we collect about you. To administer and improve our Sites and allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so and as part of our efforts to keep our site safe and secure;

Disclosing your information

Your personal data is information which identifies and relates to you including your contact details and photographic image and includes information we obtain directly from you or from third parties

We may disclose your personal data to third parties where this is necessary for operational purposes in order to facilitate the provision of the Sites or where we are required to do so by law. We may also disclose your personal data to third parties if it is to fulfil a legal duty or to enforce our terms of use.

Protecting your information

All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password, keep it to yourself. Transmission of data via the Internet is not entirely secure. We will try to protect your personal data but cannot guarantee its security; transmission is at your own risk.

Other websites you access through links on our Sites will have their own privacy policies. We do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies.

Access to your information

You have a right to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you by making a Subject Access Request for which we may charge a fee of up to £10. This right is governed by the Data Protection Act.

Any request must be made in writing and include the following information:

  • full name – including any previous/other names used
  • date of birth
  • full address
  • telephone number
  • any unique registration or ID numbers used with the organisation
  • fee

As required under the Data Protection Act we will respond to any subject access requests within 40 calendar days..

When you visit these Sites we issue a 'Cookie' to your computer.

CITB use Google Analytics to measure and analyse user information related to our Sites. For that purpose, on the basis of your IP Address, Internet traffic data and data on your browser type and PC are collected, among other things. We will not use the data to identify you personally. When we collect personal information relating to users of the Sites, - for example during competitions or for the provision of electronic newsletters, we will provide specific conditions about the use of such information at the point of collection. How we use your information

We use your information to administer and improve the competition. We may also contact you for your consent to take part in promotional activity for SkillBuild, such as case studies and blogs.

We store your information in a secure database which is not shared with third parties without your consent. 

Who has access to your information

CITB staff and contracted data processors who need the information to administer the competition have access.

What we collect

What we collect may include your:

  • Name
  • Contact details
  • Date of birth
  • Dietary information
  • Clothing size
  • Ethnicity
  • Disability information
  • Qualifications.

How long we keep it

We keep your information until 28 February of the year following your registration, except for competition results, which we keep until they are no longer necessary to maintain records for past achievers and to track progress through competition cycles.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to modify, add or delete this privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of the information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we disclose it. We recommend you come back to review this privacy policy regularly so that you remain aware of the terms and conditions that apply to you
