When I left secondary school, I decided to carry on in education and completed A-levels in Mathematics, Chemistry and Sports Science.
I then went onto university to study for a BSc in Mathematics at UAE (University of East Anglia), which I graduated with in July 2014. After I graduated, I secured a Graduate Quantity Surveyor position with Lovell in November 2014.
The best part of my job is seeing completed houses and knowing that I was a part of that process.

Tell us a bit more about how you work for and your job role.
I work for Lovell Partnerships Ltd, who build affordable housing for housing associations. In my role as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, I assist the other Quantity Surveyors with the different contracts they’re involved in. a big part of this involves assisting with the procurement and payment of contractors. The procurement process involves sending out enquiries for the contractors to price, then reviewing their quotes and meeting face-to-face with them.
There are plenty of roles available within construction, as the demand for skilled workers is growing.
What do you love about your job?
It’s great being in such a friendly environment, and the best part of my job is seeing completed houses and knowing that I was a part of that process.
Where do you want your career to take you?
I like to take on a full Quantity Surveyor role, and then progress into a managing or chief quantity surveyor position.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about a career in construction?
There are plenty of roles available within construction, as the demand for skilled workers is growing, as is the demand for houses. So it’s a route worth pursuing.
