How can I apply to become a Go Construct STEM Ambassador?

Our becoming an Ambassador webpage contains all the information you’ll need, whether you’d like to join one of our webinars with step-by-step guidance, or watching our videos and completing registration in your own time.

Why do I need to apply through STEM Learning?

Since 2021 we have collaborated with STEM Learning, the leading ambassador programme in the UK, to create the Go Construct STEM Ambassador Scheme, the largest construction industry specific STEM programme.

STEM Learning is the largest provider of educational careers support in science, technology, engineering and maths. Their self-service digital platform acts as a one-stop-shop for online inductions, safeguarding training and finding and attending events.

Our partnership with STEM Learning enables us to enrich our support of Go Construct STEM Ambassadors and increase our reach. Through STEM Learning, we gain access to events held in schools, colleges and youth organisations throughout the UK, allowing us to connect with and inspire many more young people to consider careers in construction and the built environment.

As a Go Construct STEM Ambassador, you’ll manage all your ambassador activities on STEM Learning’s digital platform.

Will I need to complete any training?

Yes, all the training you’ll need to complete will be available once you’ve registered to become a STEM Ambassador.

As a minimum, you’ll be required to complete an initial induction (approx. one hour of online learning) and a safeguarding assessment. There's further optional online training available to support you at all stages of your Ambassador journey, as well as continuous professional development and additional learning materials, completely free to access.

I’m already a STEM Ambassador - do I need to do anything?

If you’re already a STEM Ambassador it’s easy to join the Go Construct scheme.

Email STEM Learning at stem-ambassadors@stem.org.uk and ask them to add the Go Construct STEM Ambassador scheme to your profile, and give them permission to share your contact details with us.

By adding the Go Construct scheme and sharing your details with us, you can access the additional benefits available only to Go Construction STEM Ambassadors, as well as receiving insights and news from across our sector. Find out more about what you can gain from joining the Go Construct scheme on our becoming an Ambassador webpage.

What’s the cost to become an Ambassador?

Great news, there is no monetary cost! The STEM Ambassador network is made up of volunteers, so the only real cost is your time.

What’s more, you only need to complete a minimum of one activity in a 12-month period to maintain your account, of course you are always welcome to do more!

I already have a valid DBS/PVG certificate - what do I do?

You may not need a new DBS or PVG certificate if you are already signed up to the update service. Once you’ve completed your registration as a STEM Ambassador, your local STEM Delivery Partner will get in touch with you to review your status and talk you through what to do next.

Will I be able to access resources for events?

Yes, as a STEM Ambassador you’ll be able to access STEM Learning’s digital resources platform containing over 14,000 resources. You’ll also be able to access resources created by Go Construct through the online ordering portal, and you can find information about resources available to you in the educational resources section of the website.

As a Go Construct STEM Ambassador, how should I promote Go Construct?

Whilst schools, colleges and youth group organisers will need to be directed to the STEM Learning website to book Ambassadors, Go Construct remains our go-to reference platform for careers in construction. We recommend that you signpost young people and educators to Go Construct for further information about careers in construction and the built environment.

Who will be my main contact?

For queries about your STEM Ambassador account, STEM Learning will be your main point of contact, they can be contacted at stem-ambassadors@stem.org.uk.

A member of your local STEM Delivery Partner team will introduce themselves, support you through your induction and will be on-hand for any other support you need. For a full list of Delivery Partners, as well as their contact details, please visit the STEM Learning website.

Please remember to update your address if you move or end up working from an alternative address for long periods of time.

How will STEM Learning notify me of upcoming events in my area?

Within your Ambassador dashboard in the STEM Learning portal, you can view events local to your registered address. You can also change the options and find opportunities from further across the UK, as well as virtual activities.

How will I hear about Ambassador training?

We provide access to CPD modules and help guides exclusively for Go Construct STEM Ambassadors, and we’ll send details to you once you’ve registered to join the scheme. You can also access additional training and development through your dashboard in the STEM Learning platform, with links to the STEM Learning training hub.

Will schools, colleges and youth organisations see my contact information?

No, you only share contact information with schools, colleges and youth organisations by tagging yourself to their event or directly offering your time or services. Other than that, only STEM Learning and parties you have given consent to, such as Go Construct and your employer, will be able to see your data.

Will my employer be informed of my work as a Go Construct STEM Ambassador?

Employers will be able to have access to their own dashboards within the STEM Learning platform if 10 or more employees are STEM Ambassadors. This provides employers with real time data on the volunteering activities delivered by employees, showing their social value contributions to communities.

Your employer will only be able to see your contact details if you select the checkbox to give them permission, and you can amend permission levels at any time in your Ambassador dashboard.

What happens if I change jobs or move organisations?

Your STEM Learning profile can be amended and updated anytime, whether you need to change your employment details, address or contact information. It’s important to keep this information up to date so you can receive the latest information from STEM Learning, as well as maintain access to your account.

Can I deliver construction activities and careers information myself without an Ambassador?

Whilst inviting a Go Construct STEM Ambassador to your event is the preferable option, we know there are always more events than Ambassadors are available for. There are construction activities available that don’t require delivery by an Ambassador, and plenty of information available for you to use to guide young people with career options, take a look through our resources for teachers and resources for career advisers sections of the website.
