Sustainability manager / co-ordinator

Sustainability managers/co-ordinators oversee the implementation of sustainability strategies during a project.


The Role

  • Undertaking Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) assessments
  • Completing sustainability plans
  • Producing reports on findings
  • Initiating renewable energy assessments
  • Organising logistics
  • Advising on the latest low or zero-carbon technologies
  • Managing a team
  • Organising and chairing meetings
  • Communicating plans to all relevant staff clearly and thoroughly
  • Being accountable for team decisions
  • Typically, Sustainability Managers/Coordinators work around 40 hours per week, usually between 9am and 6pm.
  • There may be times where you'll need to work overnight or at the weekend, depending on the project.

Salary

  • Newly trained sustainability managers/co-ordinators can earn in the region of £25,000£35,000
  • Trained with experience sustainability managers/co-ordinators can earn in the region of £35,000£48,000
  • Senior or chartered sustainability managers/co-ordinators can earn in the region of £48,000£60,000

Salaries typically depend on location, employer and level of responsibility. Salaries and career options improve with chartered status.


Qualifications and Training

As this is a senior role, a BSc Honours Degree, L6 NVQ/HNC or Scottish equivalent in engineering, construction or sustainability will likely to be required.For some positions, you may also need to have a Masters Degree, or chartered status with a relevant body.

What if I don't have the required degree?

Experience is often very important too, so entrants with other qualifications might be considered; for example, those with extensive knowledge of logistics, low or zero-carbon technology, or in depth knowledge of building regulations.
