Schools across the region are invited to take part in Construction and Engineering Week 2026, taking place at the Lincolnshire Showground from 22-24 September.
Designed for primary and secondary school pupils, this exciting three-day event gives young people the chance to step beyond the classroom and experience the world of construction and engineering through a range of interactive, hands-on activities.
Day one (Tuesday 22 September) will be tailored to primary school students with day two and three (Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 September) targeted at SEND and secondary school pupils.
Now in its 22nd year and sponsored by CITB, ECITB and the Humber Energy Board, the event aims to inspire the next generation by helping students discover the wide variety of careers available across two of the UK's most important industries.
Bringing careers in construction and engineering to life
Construction and Engineering Week provides students aged 10-18 with the opportunity to engage directly with employers and industry professionals, gaining first-hand experience of the skills, technologies and trades that help shape our communities and infrastructure.
Activities include:
- Carpentry
- Bricklaying
- Electrical engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Virtual reality welding
- Block paving
- Operating diggers and construction equipment.
These practical experiences give students a real understanding of career pathways that they may not have previously considered, helping to broaden horizons and spark future ambitions.
Supporting career development
The event aligns with careers education objectives by connecting students with local employers and showcasing the many routes into employment, apprenticeships and further training within the construction and engineering industries.
Students will gain valuable insight into:
- The wide range of careers available across the industry
- Apprenticeship and training opportunities
- The skills employers are looking for
- Emerging technologies and modern methods of construction
- Potential career pathways after school or college.
An inspiring experience for young people
Feedback consistently highlights the impact that hands-on experiences have on helping students understand the exciting and rewarding opportunities available within the sector.
In 2025, more than 1,500 young people attended the event, supported by 50 employers from across Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and the Humber. 82% reported increased awareness of careers in construction and engineering, 79% said they gained a better understanding of what employers look for, and 63% of attendees said they are now more likely to consider a career in construction or engineering.
