Take part in the SkillBuild National Final SEND Demonstration 

Showcase your skills at the UK's biggest construction skills competition 

Applications are now open for ten SEND learners to take part in the SkillBuild National Final SEND Demonstration at Arena MK, Milton Keynes, on 18-19 November 2026. 

Delivered in partnership with Build Academy, the SEND Demonstration gives learners the opportunity to experience the excitement and prestige of the SkillBuild National Final while showcasing their skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment. 

Over two days, participants will work alongside other learners to create a unique construction-themed display using a range of practical skills from across the industry, including bricklaying, painting and decorating, wall and floor tiling, and wood trades. 

What is the SEND Demonstration? 

The SEND Demonstration has been designed to celebrate the talents of learners with special educational needs and disabilities and highlight the opportunities available within the construction industry. 

Rather than competing against one another, participants will work on a collaborative project, gaining hands-on experience across multiple trades while developing confidence, practical skills and industry awareness. 

Participants will become part of the wider SkillBuild National Final experience, joining hundreds of competitors, employers, training providers and industry representatives from across the UK.

Supported by former participants 

This year's SEND Demonstration will be supported by two learner ambassadors who took part in the Demonstration last year. 

The ambassadors will act as mentors throughout the event, helping participants settle in, build confidence and make the most of the experience. 

What to expect  

The SEND Demonstration takes place as part of the SkillBuild National Final, the UK's largest construction skills competition. Participants will be part of a vibrant, live event attended by competitors, employers, training providers and visitors from across the UK construction industry. 

During the event, learners can expect to: 

  • Work in a busy and active event environment 
  • Experience a lively atmosphere with noise, activity and visitors throughout the venue 
  • Meet and interact with industry professionals, competitors and members of the public 
  • Be supported by event staff, mentors and volunteers throughout the two days 
  • Potentially feature in photography, video content and interviews used to showcase the event and celebrate your achievements. 

We recognise that everyone experiences environments differently. The SEND Demonstration is designed to be supportive and inclusive, and we will work with learners, parents, carers and providers to understand any support requirements and make reasonable adjustments wherever possible.

Who can apply? 

To enter the SkillBuild 2026 SEND Demonstration applicants must have been at least 16 years old on 1 September 2025 and also meet at least one of the following criteria: 

  • Employed in the construction industry in the UK and have completed a relevant UK qualification in the last 12 months  
  • Currently studying towards a relevant UK qualification, including T levels and multi skills 
  • Working towards an apprenticeship in a relevant trade in the UK.  

Places are limited to ten participants, and applicants may be asked to provide evidence of eligibility.
