The journey starts with practice, practice, practice! Using past competition projects and specially designed activities, competitors use their training programmes to start sharpening their skills and prepare to take part in the competition.
Taking place in March each year, competitors register for their place in the competition. Once registration closes, the final list of competitors is announced and the competitions start the following month.
3. Regional qualifiers
From April to June, competitions held throughout the UK, bring together trainees and apprentices from across the country to compete in their chosen skills. The highest scoring competitors are then invited to take part in the UK National Final.
4. UK national final
The intensity increases when competitors come together to compete across three days In November. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded at a ceremony after the final day. The highest scoring eligible competitors can progress through to Squad UK, with the potential to be selected to compete at an international level.
5. EuroSkills Graz 2020
During this period of training, Squad UK members are selected to compete against 28 European countries in their chosen skill. EuroSkills takes place every two years, and members from Squad UK will compete at EuroSkills Graz, Austria, in September 2020.
6. WorldSkills Shanghai 2021
The final step is a series of training events and competitions which lead just one individual per competition to take on the rest of the world in Shanghai, China, in 2021. This competitor will showcase their talents on a global stage and compete for the opportunity to be crowned ‘Best in the World’.
