What is Skillbuild?
All you need to know about the upcoming regional, national and international competitions
Welcome to SkillBuild. Here you'll find everything you need to know about the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices.
SkillBuild, delivered by CITB, is the largest multi-trade skills competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices.
A series of competitions sees the very best compete against each other to be crowned a winner in their chosen trade. Much like the Olympics, as each level of competition progresses, competitors will be tested not only on their technical abilities, but on their time management, character and commitment, and the competitions can help build confidence, self-esteem and vital life skills.
The physical qualifiers for this year’s competition, SkillBuild 2021, officially concluded on Friday 25th June.
During what has been a challenging year for everyone, the entire SkillBuild team would like to express sincere thanks to the colleges, training groups, employers, sponsors, judges and, of course, all competitors involved. It was wonderful to witness such enthusiasm and commitment across a range of disciplines at almost 100 organisations across the country. The calibre of skills displayed highlights what a bright future the construction industry has ahead with such a talented future workforce.
Due to Covid, the qualifying format looked a little different this year. In previous competitions, all qualifiers were held at selected venues across the UK – whereas this year saw competitors complete their physical projects at their own college or training provider. Despite the lack of a typical bumper crowd to cheer them on, all competitors adapted fantastically to the new approach to ensure the competition was a roaring success.
Overall, the competition saw close to 250 competitors take part across 12 heats in the following individual skill areas:
Make sure to check back here for the final results of each qualifier.
Competitors: don’t forget! You must also complete your online assessment – your overall score will be made up of a combination of this and your adjudged physical project. You should have received details about the assessment by email, with instructions on how to select a convenient time and date.
The deadline to complete your online assessment is 20th July.
If you haven’t received the email, please contact the team immediately: firstname.lastname@example.org
Due to social distancing restrictions and guidelines still being in place, we had to reduce our competition capacities this year. If you registered for SkillBuild 2021 but were unsuccessful in securing a place, please do come back and try again in 2022.
Plans for next year’s Regional Qualifiers are already well underway, and we expect them to be bigger and better than ever. With a return to face-to-face activities and the potential to progress to international competitions via WorldSkills UK, we cannot wait to welcome you all back for SkillBuild 2022.
Interact with the competition across social media by using the hashtag #SkillBuild2021.
