Competition overviews
2. Registration
The registration window opens in March each year, via the WorldSkills UK site, for competitors to select their SkillBuild Regional Qualifier preferences. Successful registrants will be informed as soon as possible after registration closes at the beginning of April.
3. Regional qualifiers
From April to late June, SkillBuild Regional Qualifiers are held across the UK. The eight overall highest-achieving competitors in each skill are invited to compete at the SkillBuild UK National Final.
4. UK National Final
The intensity builds at the three-day final, as part of the multi-sector WorldSkills UK LIVE event in November, with medals and national acclaim at stake. Only the highest-scoring eligible competitors can progress through to Squad UK and international level.
5. Euroskills
After a period of focused training, Squad UK members may be chosen to compete in their specialist skills, against 28 European countries, at EuroSkills. Eligibility for Squad UK for EuroSkills, St Petersburgh in 2022, will be based on SkillBuild medal winners from 2020 and 2021.
6. Worldskills
The final step in this journey is for SkillBuild competitors to reach the full international stage of WorldSkills – the ‘Skills Olympics’ – where elite individuals take on global competition, all striving to be acclaimed ‘Best in the World’. SkillBuild medal winners from 2020 and 2021 have the potential to compete at WorldSkills Lyon in 2023.
