Competitors will gain marks for setting out, internal and external joints, dimensions, and finish and appearance of the project.
Marks will also be awarded for working safely and wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the competition.
You won’t see the project drawing until competition day, but you can still get ready by practising and testing your skills with past projects: project drawings.
To be able to take part in this competition, you should be able to:
- Read and understand working drawings and standard graphical details
- Produce curved elevation profiles using templates and routers
- Produce a setting out rod full size to very good standard of graphical detailing and accuracy
- Work to a high level of dimensional accuracy
- Mark out timber and sheet materials accurately
- Cut a variety of joints to a high standard of accuracy using hand tools and, where required, machine or power tools
- Be able to competently use a portable hand-held router, select tooling, and set up safely and use
- Assemble, check for square, dismantling, reassembling and gluing
- Finish the test project to a high standard using hand tools and random orbit sander
- Keep the work area clean and tidy
- Work in a safe manner.
