Isobel Pearse is a Painting & Decorating apprentice at Castle Groundworks & Construction – here’s why she got into construction, and why an apprenticeship could be perfect for you too.

Isobel started working with her stepdad to see if Painting and Decorating was the right career path and choice for her. As a result of a period of successful work experience with her stepdad, the next step for Isobel was to secure an apprenticeship in Painting & Decorating.

Like so many others in construction, an apprenticeship offered Isobel the perfect stepping stone to a fulfilling and exciting career.

Isobel, during her period of work experience, applied for a college placement to ensure that she was able to secure her apprenticeship training.

She was inspired by the facility and support at the college.

"The facilities are really good at Coleg Sir Gar," she said. "My tutor and training adviser have been very supportive helping me with the work I need to complete and how to gather evidence from the workplace to help me with my apprenticeship qualifications."

Isobel highlighted the importance of work experience and the range of work needed for her qualification.

"I’d like to learn different painting techniques such as marbling and how to hang wallpaper as I feel this will help me to develop my practical skills and knowledge further.

My employer is very supportive of my apprenticeship and allows me to attend college two days a week to complete my qualification."

Isobel is currently working toward completing her Foundation Apprenticeship in Painting & Decorating.
